ATLANTA, Jun 03, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Cbeyond(R), Inc. (NASDAQ: CBEY), a leading IP-based managed services provider to small businesses, received the Technology Marketing Excellence Award (TAMY) in the Marketing for Growth category. Cbeyond earned the award for its Detroit market launch, which featured a networking event, community service project, and small business makeover contest.
Cbeyond launched services in the Detroit area with a business leaders networking breakfast that included speeches from Jim Geiger, CEO of Cbeyond, James C. Epolito, CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and Farmington Hills Mayor Vicki Barnett. Approximately 150 local business and community leaders attended the event, which was held October 3, 2007, at Automation Alley in Troy, MI.
The half-day community service project, led by more than 35 Cbeyond volunteers, took place at Lighthouse PATH, a women's transitional housing center. During the service project, Cbeyond employees donated more than 100 hours making repairs to the facility, landscaping and removing debris in addition to planting trees, weeding and raking.
The Small Business Communications Make-Over Contest, co-sponsored by Cbeyond and Cisco, provided select Detroit-area small businesses with a year of Cbeyond's BeyondVoice(R) service, a bundle of local and long distance phone service and broadband Internet, and a Cisco IP-based phone system. Contest winners, such as Habitat for Humanity in Oakland County, were selected based on their entrepreneurial spirit and their proposed use of the next generation technology.
"As a result of our market launch efforts, we have received an amazing response from the Detroit-area small business community," said Brooks Robinson, chief marketing officer at Cbeyond. "Detroit-area entrepreneurs now benefit from our productivity-enhancing applications designed specifically for small businesses."
The TAMYs are awarded by TAG Marketing, a society of the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG). TAMY awards recognize Georgia-based companies that demonstrate significant and measurable accomplishments in technology marketing. This is the eighth year of the TAMY awards.
This award announcement arrives on the heels of Cbeyond's most recent launch of services in the San Francisco Bay Area. To celebrate its entry into the market, Cbeyond and Cisco co-hosted a panel discussion among environmental experts and local small businesses on how entrepreneurs can adopt eco-friendly business practices. The event drew 150 business and community leaders.
