| When Hurricane Ike hit the Houston area September 12, 2008, Cbeyond took swift action and reached out to its Houston-area employees to ensure they were safe. As the company's technical support team worked to restore service to its Houston-area customers, Cbeyond's management team asked its non-technical employees based in Houston to volunteer with Hurricane Ike recovery efforts. | ||
Working closely with local response teams, which included FEMA, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Transportation Security Administration, Cbeyond donated more than 900 volunteer hours in 12 days. During the recovery work, Cbeyond employees worked at five different point of distribution sites (PODS) over a two-week period. Two of these PODS were manned solely by Cbeyond employees, while a third served as the number one distribution point in the city for three days. Cbeyond employees distributed much-needed food, water, and supplies to more than 30,000 cars and 23,000 people. | ||
